Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
What an amazing journey it’s been so far! It has been 7 ½ months since Morgan and Linda decided to retire and I’ve taken over at Indianhead Ironwood (formerly Indianhead Motel). I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people here in Ironwood. One of my goals this year is to keep you updated on what’s going on here at IH Ironwood, as well as anything that’s happening in our community. But first, let’s start with a recap of my experience so far. I apologize for the length of this, but I was supposed to provide an update last August, and then last September, and then last October - you get the idea.
Last summer saw high school reunions and the inaugural Emberlight Festival (https://emberlight.org/). Emberlight was a huge success and drew many first time visitors to Ironwood and to IH Ironwood. Summer also provided me the pleasure of meeting so many of you who have been patronizing this business for so many years! I continue to find your stories fascinating and uplifting.
With fall came the beautiful Fall Colors. The fall colors also brought so much welcome diversity to the area! Now, we really need to figure out how to provide a diversity of choices to eat here! Being a vegetarian has had its challenges here in Ironwood. Copper Peak (https://copperpeak.net/), the countless waterfalls (https://travelironwood.com/waterfalls/), and the Porcupine Mountains (https://www.porcupineup.com/) seemed to be the most popular attractions during the fall. Don’t forget about Lake Superior!
This past winter was busier than expected! January saw the return of the annual SISU Ski Fest (https://www.sisuskifest.com/) and the opportunity to meet so many long-time patrons of this motel - I even met a family whose third generation now has visited us! February was showcased by the return of the Copper Peak Hill Climb (https://mastersracing.net/february-19-2022-copper-peak/) after a 10-year break. February was also the month of amatuer races at the ski hills and hockey tournaments. The hockey tournaments continued into March; let’s not forget about the snowmobile riders!
Now let’s talk about Spring! April and May will be spent doing repairs from the snow on the motel. I am a snow newbie so there’s a bit for me and my amazing team to tackle. For you, spring is an amazing time to see the snow melting, raging waterfalls and to check out white water rafting. It’s also a good time to start planning your outdoor summer adventures. Travel Ironwood (https://travelironwood.com/) is the best resource. For guided tours, check out Fox Hill Adventures (http://foxhilladventures.com/). Tell them the crazy nerd at Indianhead Ironwood sent you!
If you’re reading this sentence, kudos to you! I would have quit after the third sentence in the first paragraph! Talk to you soon.
